There has been a clear change in the air of Pakistan. Regarding power control, new and harsh changes are undergoing. The latest hit is on the NAB, National Accountability Bureau.
Expected Changes in the Law:
According to the reports, the Ministry of Law along with the opposition is concluding a draft according to which the NAB chief powers should be clearly explained and the plea bargain power withdrawal from the NAB.
In future, the plea bargain power will be referred to as the acceptance of the crime and that the accused person will be treated accordingly.
The Supreme Court (SC) had set the date in a hearing that the law of plea bargain should be amended to that.
Justice Azmat Saeed had said the plea bargain law of NAB should be amended till February 2019 otherwise the court will pass the order.
The Apex court has also asked the parliament to amend the accountability law allowing a voluntary return of the ill-earned money till February or the court will pass the appropriate order on the matter.
Farooq H Naek, amicus curiae in the case has informed the court that the parliamentary committee is working on these amendments in the National Accountability Ordinance and Law and the parliament might tallow these changes.
It is note worthy here that the returned of the plundered money during the investigation by the accused is an option which according to the Accountability Law cannot be referred in the accountability court if the money is returned. Moreover, the existing 90 days period of remand by the NAB should also be changed to 14 days period.
