The Government has cleared this Fake News which has been circulating recently that the Government has decided to abolish the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. This clearance came from the ministry itself that the decision related with the abolishment does not fall under the federal ministry.
According to the ministry, the decision of abolishment cannot be taken without the consult of the parliament. The matter under discussion must be brought into the concern of the stakeholders for the abolishment or otherwise.
The basic function of this committee is to announce the sighting of the moon with the reference of the Pakistan Meteorological Department. This committee is currently under the charge of Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman.
The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee was brought into being by the resolution passed in 1974 by the Government under the reign of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.
The parliament supported the Committee and it has been performing its duty since that day. it has been working on the federal and district levels.
Although no rules were officially related to it, the parliament in 2016 questioned its legal status. It has gone through many changing, but the committee has been performing its functions legally.
Many controversies have been linked with the authenticity of the decision this committee makes but since no proves to question any further on that matter, those controversies die over some time.
