No matter how big your name is, if the court decides to take action then there is nothing you can do. Same happened when Geo News accounts were frozen by FBR.
According to the news by a fellow channel ARY News which was aired yesterday that reported the incident. As per the report, the Federal Board of Revenue froze the accounts of one of the leading new channels due to the non-payment of their sales taxes despite being notified for several times.
It has been reported that the media corporation was informed and send notifications several times and it was informed that if the cooperation did not act soon on it, then a swift action will be action against it.
As The Notification Reads
In a notice issued to the news corporation, the FBR said that sales tax between the period of July 2004 – June 2006 and May 2007 – September 2007 were not paid despite being informed about it.
For the July 2004 – June 2006 period, the organized was directed to pay Rs58,735,016 as default surcharge and Rs 193,594,513 as a penalty.
For the May 2007 – September 2007 period, Rs 53,014,683 was required to be paid as default surcharge and Rs 141,893,442 as a penalty.
Sales Tax Act 1990 Sec 48 1(b)
Since the organization failed to pay the sale taxes which made the national taxation authority to take strict action by the Sales Tax Act 1990 section 48 1(b) which says,
“Subject to sub-section (1A), where any amount of tax is due from any person, the officer of Inland Revenue mayrequire by a notice requirement in writing any person who holds or may subsequently hold any money for or on account of the person from whom tax may be recoverable to pay to such officer the amount specified in the notice.”
