There was a petition filed in the Peshawar High Court against the much-hiked prices of the medicine which included the lifesaving medicine also. After the hearing, the Court issued a stay order which put a halt on the implementation of the new prices.
DRAP (Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan) issued a notification when it got the approval from the federal government. According to the notification, the medicines prices were to be increased by 15% on all kind of medicine, even those which are termed as lifesavers.
During the hearing, the petitioner’s lawyer argues that by increasing the prices, the government and the DRAP are not facilitating the citizens but making it hard for the normal people even to get access to the must need medicine.
By giving such approval, the government has shown no responsibility towards the masses. Such decisions would only burden the people of Pakistan.
The hearing bench which included justice Ikramullah Khan and Justice MussaratHilali, they agreed with the petition and issue a stay order to DRAP to halt the implementation of the new prices till further notice.
The bench also issued different summons to different governmental authorities who are very much relevant to the matter to attend the next hearing on the 3rd of February.
