Being a Muslim, it is my dream to visit the holy place of Makkah and Madinah. It is not just me but every Muslim has this wish in his or her heart, and that is why we are always trying to go there and perform either Umrah or Hajj.
The Government of Saudi Arabia has recently issued a list which tells a lot about the percentage of people coming from different countries to perform Umrah and to our most delight and pleasure, Pakistan tops the list
It is not a surprise really. With the ratio of people going to perform Umrah, it is of no wonder that Pakistan has most pilgrims.
According to the list, the number of Umrah visa issued last year only by the Saudi government was 2,785,790. And 2346429 of those pilgrims made it to the kingdom. Out of these 637745 pilgrims were Pakistani.
As for others, 420,410 individuals were from Indonesia, 292,607 from India, 135,895 from Malaysia, 128,618 from Yemen, 73,179 from Egypt, 65,970 from Turkey, 59,855 from the United Arab Emirates, and 57,701 from Bangladesh.
It is also reported that the majority of the pilgrims traveled through the air and the count is 2,122,424 while those who came by land are 213,121 pilgrims. A small number came by sea, and their count is 10,884 pilgrims.
Also, the report is stating that almost 345,114 pilgrims are still in the country. About 233,910 pilgrims are in Makkah while other 111,204 pilgrims are in Madinah.
It is interesting to know that the Saudi Government has launched a weekly indicator that will count the pilgrims on a weekly basis.
