Pakistan Super League is just about to start, and we hear new news almost on daily basis regarding the PSL. The latest news is the rejection of the female cheerleader’s idea proposed by Pakistan Cricket Board. An idea like such was also presented last year by PCB.
Proposal for Cheerleaders
With the worldwide trend of almost every playing team has their own cheerleading squad, PCB tried to install this idea in PSL as well. The theory behind this proposal was simple.
Female cheerleading will gather more audience for the matches and also provide entertained and encouraging chants for the teams.
It was proposed that the installing female cheerleaders will in no way provide provocative environment as the females will be donning decent and fully covered clothes and no provocative dances or dresses will be seen.
It is noteworthy here to mention that PSL will be happening in Pakistan whose majority of the population is Muslim, and cheerleading is not considered something good.
Rejection by the PSL
This innovative yet very controversial idea was rejected by the PSL squad of six teams. They cited two main objectives in their rejection, and I stand by both.
The presence of the cheerleading will not be helpful in any way to the League. The addition of female cheerleaders will only result in controversy and it will give the league a bad name.
The amount to be paid to each female cheerleader is very ridiculous, to be honest, i.e. $14000, PCB you must be joking!
Each of the six teams of PSL rejected the ideas as it was not economical on their budget to include such heavily paid female cheerleaders and of course after years of trying to clear the name of cricket in Pakistan, they don’t want to ruin their hard work just in the name of entertainment.
