The video of thousands and thousands of insects swarming the holy city of Makkah is making rounds on the internet.
The residents are coming up with many different theories about this phenomenon. According to the media reports, such an event has never been seen before on the holy mosque and the city.
Many different theories are arising in the wake of this insect’s invasion. Many people are regarding it as the invasion of cockroaches which is also a warning from Allah.
Others are referring at as a natural phenomenon where the change of climate and weather has caused so many insects to fly in the city. The insects have an ability to fly low and crawl on the floor as well. These viral videos also show how people are getting affected by this event.
The locals are themselves in a strange spot by declaring that they have never witnessed such a thing before in their lives.
They are confused and afraid at the same time. But authorities have cleared some of the speculations regarding the species that these insects are not cockroaches but black crickets.
According to the Makkah Municipality, citywide fumigation is being carried out to get rid of such an insane number of insects which are being called a ‘black cricket.’
A total number of 130 workers have been appointed in the cleaning of the city. They have also fumigated the sewerages and open water sources around the holy mosque to promote the breeding and reproduction of this species.

It has also been reported that wildlife experts have shown a keen interest in this happening. According to the manager and scientific advisor of terrestrial biodiversity at WWF and Emirates Nature Dr. Jacky, “This is the first time for me to see this species in big numbers.
I am not surprised that people are saying the same.” “I have never seen this species in these big numbers.”
He also said that many people breed cricket to feed their birds. It can also be such case where these crickets escaped their captivity and stormed into Makkah and its surrounding city.
